Following weeks of speculation about Walmart coming to Jefferson, the corporate mega retailer has submitted an application for a 156,000 sq. ft. store with the city.

The move wasn’t unexpected, given that the firm announced several years ago its interest in locating in the town.

But the plan has raised a lot of opposition from those who say the proposed site is unsuited for a large retail place and that the resulting traffic would create problems along a main corridor feeding into the city’s schools.

The proposed location is the intersection of Old Pendergrass Road and the Hwy. 129 Damon Gause Bypass, across from the existing Kroger shopping center.
