“The Pirates of the Harold S. Swindle Public Library, Nicholson, are telling tales,” states Rhonda O’Keeffe.

At the recent “Pirate Invasion” program children chased clues using a map to discover treasures for their self-decorated chests. Our wee scalawags participated in a cannonball pitch and hook ring toss. The young pirates dug for treasures in golden slime for counterfeit coins. The lads and lassies were able to take home: a buccaneer maze, temporary pirate tattoos, swashbuckling coloring sheets and a message in a bottle.

The library thanks volunteers: Jessica Munch, Sheryl Munch and Carolyn Barnett.

Every month the library will present a themed program for children ages four and up with a caregiver.

September is Library Card Sign Up Month. The PINES Library Card is free to all residents of Georgia with a state-issued ID. Public libraries offer print books, e-books, audio books and a large selection of DVDs. The library also offers passes for the following: Georgia State Park and historical sites, Atlanta Zoo, Atlanta Puppetry Arts, Michael C. Carlos Museum and the Macon Museum. Passes are available free for check out to library card holders. Among the many resources the library offers are educational touch-screen computers and ABC Mouse for children, MANGO (learn a language), computer access, Wi-Fi, Galileo access and Learning Express.

“Stop by and sign up for the smartest card in your wallet,” states O’Keeffe.
