Rotarians honor students of the month for September

The Jefferson Rotary Club honored its Students of the Month for Sept. recently. They were from Commerce High School (CHS), East Jackson Comprehensive High School (EJCHS), Jackson County Comprehensive High School (JCCHS) and Jefferson High School (JHS). From (left to right) are: Rotarian David Varnedoe, chairman of the Students of the Month Committee; Levi Bell, JHS; Montgomery Garland, JCCHS; Bradley Akin, EJCHS; Nate Ray, CHS and club president, Jon Howell. Chairman Varnedoe presented the framed certificates and president Howell welcomed the students, their parents and each student’s designated teacher. Howell said the club provides a $1,000 scholarship to a student from each high school at the end of the 2019-20 school term. He also explained the requirements for the students to be considered for the scholarships. In addition, he noted that the club provides a $1,000 scholarship to a local outstanding Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) cadet in memory of the late Rotarian Hal Puett, a World War II veteran who died tragically in a traffic accident.
