McCannon receives handicap ramp from Rotary

The Rotary Club of Madison County Ramp Crew constructed a 16-foot ramp for Bob McCannon of Colbert Tuesday, Dec. 29. McCannon has stage 4 lung cancer and it has metastasized into his bones. He went to UGA majoring in economics and political science. He worked for the family business Comer Cleaners before going to Kroger in Athens and then Pepperidge Farms in Clarke, Oconee, Oglethorpe and Madison Counties for 30 years before retiring. His brother, Tim McCannon, contacted the Rotary Club to help with the ramp. His uncle, Gerald McCannon, president of the Comer Chapter #1415 of the Woodmen of the World, was there and the organization made a financial donation to help offset the materials cost for the ramp. Rotarians and volunteers who helped with the construction were Bob Padilla, Ralph Hudgens, Ed Brown, Alan Phillips, Mitchell Hill, David McGinnis, Walton Hill, Don Sullinger, Wade Scarboro, Tim McCannon and Bob’s son, Chase McCannon.
