Rotary Club constructs ramp for Moon

The Rotary Club of Madison County recently constructed a handicap ramp for Bertha Moon, who is 61 and has lived in Madison County all her life. She has worked at the Madison County High School for 35 years as a cook, cashier and clean-up-after-meals employee. She was also a bus monitor for MCHS for five years. “So she is well known and liked by students and teachers at the school,” said Rotary leaders. She has also worked at Ingles in Athens part time in their deli. She is not working now due to two knee surgeries that have made it impossible to climb stairs. Rhonda Drake is a good friend of hers and she contacted the Rotary Club of Madison County and requested they construct a handicap ramp so she could get in and out of her home. On Friday, Nov. 1, Rotarians and volunteers went to her home on Clearmont Avenue in Comer and constructed a 32-foot ramp. She told the workers, "I really appreciate all of you coming out and helping me." Workers on the ramp included Ed Brown, Matt Berryman, Alan Philips, Jerry Coutant, Bob Padilla, Artry Bishop, Neil Azevedo, Walton Hill, Roy Gandy and Pat Quinn.
