Rotary constructs ramp for the Allen family

Members of the Rotary Club of Madison County and volunteers constructed a 10-foot handicap access ramp on Rose Hill Drive, Athens, Wednesday, Oct. 21, to coincide with the Athens United Way’s “Day of Caring.” The ramp was built for NaTaija Allen, who was suddenly struck down by a stroke that has left her paralyzed from the neck down. Rotary leaders said the ramp crew cared a lot about building this particular ramp because Allen was a senior at Fort Valley State College and had a remarkable career mapped out until this serious blow while she was in the prime of life. Allen graduated from Madison County High School in 2014 and she, and her strong and supportive family, worship at Waggoner’s Grove Baptist Church. The Rotarians and volunteers who pitched in to build this essential ramp were Walton Hill, Artry Bishop, Johnny Westmoreland, Alan Phillips, Jerry Bonds, Bruce Gandy, Bob Padilla, Ed Brown and Johnny Minish.
