Foreclosures in Madison County in 2011 remained high, though the total figure of 426 was down seven percent from last year’s total of 459. Thirty nine foreclosures are advertised for the December sale date in this week’s Madison County Journal.

In 2009, 377 foreclosures were advertised, up from 260 in 2008 and 150 in 2007.

In neighboring Jackson County, 1,464 foreclosures were advertised this year, while 307 were advertised in Banks County.

While the foreclosure sales are advertised in the newspaper, not all properties will necessarily be sold through the foreclosure process. Mortgage holders could still settle with lenders before the property is sold at the courthouse door.
