The Georgia High School Association released its new region breakdown Dec. 1.

Madison County is in Class AAAA in Region 8 with five other schools.

MCHS is the biggest school in its region with a school population of 1,345. Other teams in the region include: Jefferson, 1,003; North Oconee, 1,186; Oconee County, 1,134; St. Pius, 1,076; and Stephens County, 1,158.

The smaller, six-team region means that the Red Raiders will be able to schedule five non-region football games, possibly renewing old area rivalries.
