For the second year in a row, the Madison County Senior League Softball All-Stars are headed to Florida to represent Georgia in the Regional Tournaments.
Madison County took the rough road through the state tournament via the loser’s bracket after dropping game one to Bartow County 14-4 last Saturday.
Madison County got their revenge Thursday, July 18, and won the state championship by defeating Bartow County in two games 7-4 and 11-4 to claim their second consecutive title. Bartow entered the championship game unbeaten and had to be defeated twice to lose out.
Madison County’s girls rolled off five straight wins to win the state tournament held at Southeast Clarke Park in Athens. Madison County limped into the tournament with early injuries to Brianna Morgan and Tatum Harris and then lost first baseman Mallory Rogers (ankle) in the win over Macon. But all is well for Coach Rodney Rogers’ girls who will now prepare for a second trip to Florida next weekend.
Members of this season’s state championship team are: Kirsten Casper, Kristen Crumley, Tatum Harris, Dani Lukas, Brianna Morgan, Mallory Rogers, Casie Wade, Taylor Freeman, Destiny Parten, Courtney Weldon, Kelsie Palmer, Morgan Pruitt, Emily Halpin, Kacie James and coaches Rodney Rogers, Lance Wade, and Preston Weldon.
