A North Carolina woman died in a two-car crash on Hwy. 29 south of Danielsville Saturday, May 2, just before 6 p.m. Brittani Panozza, 22, Greenville, N.C., was killed and four others were seriously hurt when her 1995 Honda Accord crashed head-on into a 2004 Toyota Tacoma driven by Karen Coe, 49, Anderson, SC.
According to the Athens Post of the Georgia State Patrol, Panozza was heading south on Hwy. 29 when she pulled left into the passing lane to pass another vehicle, but another vehicle had stopped in that lane to turn left onto Colbert Grove Church Road. She reportedly swerved back into the right lane to avoid that vehicle, lost control at that point and then crossed the centerline, slamming into the left front quarter panel of the Toyota truck.
Panozza was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not known whether she was wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger in the Accord, Grady Armstrong, 20, of Lugoff, SC, was seriously injured. Ms. Coe, and two passengers in the truck; Jerry Coe, 64, of Anderson, SC and Jo Lalage, 81, of Belton, SC were also listed as seriously injured. All four were transported to Athens hospitals.
