Herman Ray Grindle, 88, of Oakwood, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born in Ila, he was the son of the late James Abraham and Nora Frances Autry Grindle. He was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing Company with 51 years of service. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a longtime member of Chestnut Mountain Church and a member of the Jesus Now Sunday School class. He was known as a dedicated father, grandfather and loving husband, loved ones stated. Mr. Grindle was preceded in death by sons, Phillip Bryan Grindle and James Robert Grindle; and brothers, Howard Grindle and D.C. “Buddy” Grindle.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jeannette M. Grindle, Oakwood; sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Dale Grindle, Cumming, Harry Maddox, Roswell; grandchildren, Jeff Grindle, Robyn Bryant, Patricia Carpenter, Desiree Grindle, Nikki Grindle and Lyn Mettler; 13 great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Doc Young, Gainesville; sisters-in-law, Betty Grindle, Gainesville, and Judi Grindle, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 3, in the chapel of Little-Davenport Funeral Home with Dr. Phil Carpenter, the Revs. Jeff Benefield, Ken Grindle and John Tankersly officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
