After falling for the first time this season on Saturday, the Apalachee High School boys basketball team rebounded with a 66-59 home win against region foe Gainesville Tuesday night.
Kamar Baldwin once again scored a team-high 21 points while Alantae Billings finished with 17. Joey German added 16 points and helped lead the team’s defensive effort in the fourth quarter.
The win improved AHS to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-AAAAA. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 21-3 lead before Gainesville got its footing and trailed 33-26 at halftime. AHS had 10 turnovers in the second quarter.
The Red Elephants continued to control the game in the third quarter and were within 47-44.
The Wildcats, however, used a 10-0 run to start to the fourth quarter to get a little breathing room.
AHS coaches credited a loud student section for helping the team earn the win. The school had a “$2 Tuesday night” for students and the several turned out for the home region contest.
The Wildcats will host Flowery Branch Friday at 8:30 p.m.
