The Banks County Leopard wrestling team finished first in the Rockmart Invitational wrestling meet back on Dec. 28 and then won the 7-AAA wrestling area duals this past weekend.
Placing first individually for the Leopards at the Rockmart Invitational were Chris McCrackin in the 120-pound weight class, Cole Sweeney in the 195-pound weight class and Matthew Dilbeck in the 220-pound weight class. Second-place finishers were Tristan Guthrie in the 152-pound weight class, Wes Faulkner in the 160-pound weight class and Philip Dean in the 182-pound weight class. Third-place finishers were Tony Fultz in the 138-pound weight class and Kyle Ruark in the 145-pound weight class. Dylan Gouine finished in fourth in the 170-pound weight class.
Banks County took first place at the 7-AAA Wrestling Area Duals held in Oconee County. The Buford Wolves finished second, followed by Jackson County (third) and Oconee County (fourth). Banks County and Buford will be going to the state duals in Macon next weekend. The Leopards secured a 63-12 win over West Hall in the first round of the tournament. In the second match Saturday morning Banks County, beat North Hall 36-30 in a close battle to the end, trailing 30-9 at one point and not pulling ahead until the final match with a pin by junior Matthew Dilbeck. The Leopards won the final match over Buford, 34-32, to clinch the title.
In the 106-pound class, Matt Lowe won one of three matches. In the 113-pound class, Bobby Nguyen won two of three matches. In the 126-pound class, Chris McCrackin won two of three matches. In the 132-pound class, Corey Turner won one of two matches. In the 138-pound class, Tony Fultz won all three of his matches. In the 145-pound class, Kyle Ruark won two of three matches. In the 152-pound class, Tristan Guthrie won one of two matches and Chris Guthrie won one match. In 160-pound class, Wes Faulkner won two of three matches. In the 170-pound class, Dylan Gouine won two of three matches. In the 182-pound class, Philip Dean won all three of his matches. In the 195-pound class, Cole Sweeney won all three of his matches.
In the 220-pound class, Dilbeck won all three of his matches by pins. In 285-pound weight class, Jared Slaton won two matches by pins.
