PHOTOS: Burns signs wrestling scholarship with Appalachian State

Commerce wrestler Elijah Burns, a three-time high school state champion, recently signed a Division-I wrestling scholarship with Appalachian State. Burns compiled a career record of 128-18. He was a four-time area champion and a four-time state placer in addition to his three state championships. Burns won state tiles as a sophomore and junior at 195 pounds before winning the 220-pound title this year as a senior. He finished fourth at 182 as a freshman. "Elijah has been a staple in our program for the last four years," Commerce wrestling coach Kendall Love said. "He has worked hard and put the time in during the offseason to become a better wrestler each year. He is a very good wrestler and is one of the strongest kids I have ever been around. I think he will have a great career up at App State." Burns is the second Commerce wrestler since 2017 sign with a Division I program after Owen Brown signed with Army four years ago.
