Runs are something the Commerce Tigers know a lot about.
During last week's three games, the Tigers were able to plate 40 runs. All three games resulted in wins for the Tigers.
Commerce defeated Prince Avenue (Sept. 12), East Jackson (Sept. 11) and Providence Christian Academy (Sept. 10). The Tigers allowed only eight runs in the three games.
"I think the girls are playing up to their potential for the most part," head coach Melissa Mullis said. "... we need to play up to our potential in the face of adversity. We have two weeks left of region play before the tournament. We need to be progressing as a team, and win or lose (Tuesday), I think we are right now."
Commerce 9, Prince Avenue 7: The Tigers built up a 9-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh and held on after a late Prince Avenue rally. The Tigers had 11 hits in the win. Carson Hobbs had three hits and two RBIs. Anna Taylor had two hits and two RBIs. Hayley Horne had two hits. Rachel Morgan had three RBIs. Morgan also pitched over two innings and had two strikeouts.
Commerce 13, East Jackson 0: The Tigers scored 10 runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Maggie Blackmon had two of the team's seven hits. Lauren Roach and Hayley Horne had one hit apiece. Rachel Morgan plated four runs. Carson Hobbs had two RBIs. She also pitched four innings and recorded four strikeouts. The Eagles committed four errors in the field.
Commerce 18, Providence 1: The Tigers compiled 14 hits in the 17-run win. The Tigers scored three runs in the first, three in the second, four in the third and eight in the fourth. Providence committed eight errors. Teresa Dixon had three hits and recorded five strikeouts on the mound. Paige Vickery had two hits and three RBIs. Kendall Peters had three RBIs and Carson Hobbs had two RBIs.
