Commerce enjoyed a perfect run through the Tommy Warren Duals Saturday (Dec.19), winning the event with victories over Mountain View, Hampton, Baldwin County and Oconee County.
“I felt like we wrestled very well all day,” coach Kendall Love said. “It was a lot of the guys’ first event of the season because we were just getting out of football. We are not in wrestling shape yet but are working hard to get there.”
J.P. Allen, Bryson Flint, Brayden Phillips, Elijah Burns, Jake Frates and Ethan Epps all went undefeated for the Tigers. Dawson Legg, Caleb Lovin, Dawson Lee, and Lambdin Hard all lost just one match.
The Tigers won the event despite having several wrestlers missing due to various reasons. That left Commerce forfeiting five to six matches against each opponent.
“To win this tournament giving up 30-36 points in every dual was an incredible feat,” Love said. “In fact, we only lost five individual matches the whole day so I was very pleased with that. There is definitely work to be done, but I am very pleased with the effort we had Saturday.”
