A look at this year's Jackson County boys' track and field team:

•Coach: Gary Mintier

•Key returning athletes: Brighton Beinke (200 meters, 400 meters), Trey Ransom (sprinter), Jerry Cheeks (200 meters, 400 meters), Eli Griffeth (distance), Jason Crowthers (distance)

•Strengths: “Our strengths are in our work ethic our athletes are training hard despite a lot of rain in the pre season,” first-year coach Gary Mintier said. “We have competition in almost every event and as long as we continue to push each other we have a chance to have a successful season.”

•Weaknesses: Mintier said youth and inexperience will be obstacles early in the season.

•Region outlook: Mintier said the focus is peaking at the region meet in April. “As long as we give our all and control the things we can,” he said.

•Season outlook: “Our season goal is to build a program on this foundation of young athletes and to compete and give our all no matter what else happens on the track,” Mintier said. “Control the controllable.”
