A look at this year's Jackson County girls' track and field team:

•Coach: Gary Mintier

•Key returning athletes: Anasia Jenkins (sprinter, long jump), Davanna Collie (shotput, discus, long jump, triple jump, Madison Miller (200 meters, 400 meters)

•Strengths: First-year coach Gary Mintier points to solid competition at all events in the preseason. “Our ladies’ effort has been great and we are excited to see how they do against other competition,” Mintier said.

•Weaknesses: Depth could be an issue with lower numbers, “but we do have solid ladies committed to working and competing,” Mintier said.

•Region outlook: With strong competition within the team, Jackson County’s athletes could set personal records during region competition.

•Season outlook: Mintier said the team’s goal is to “control the controllable” and build on a foundation of younger athletes.
