The Jackson County girls’ swimming team finished third out of 12 teams in the North Regionals in Dalton Saturday (Jan. 25).

The state meet is ahead Feb. 7-8 at Georgia Tech. 

Emily Giles placed second in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, while Desi Quiles took second in the 100-yard butterfly, lowering her state-qualifying time by a second. She also placed fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The girls’ 200-yard medley relay team (Kayla Sheppard, Olivia Baker, Quiles and Giles) placed third, breaking a school record in the prelims and breaking it again in the finals.

Other top swimmers for the Panthers were:

•Sheppard, sixth, 200-yard individual medley; 11th, 100-yard breaststroke.

•Lauren Seagraves, seventh, 200-yard individual medley.

•Madelyn English, eighth, 100-yard backstroke.

•Cassie Jones, eighth, 200-yard freestyle.

•Alyssa Haley, 10th, 200-yard freestyle.

•Olivia Baker, 10th, 100-yard breaststroke.

•English, Jones, Seagraves, Jenny Cook, 12th, 200-yard medley relay.

•Seagraves, Haley, Cook and Jones, 13th, 200-yard freestyle.

The boys’ team placed 11th. Christian Honeycutt earned the top finish for the Panthers, placing eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke. He also finished 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.
