•JEFFERSON BOYS TAKE FOURTH IN TOURNEY: Jefferson placed fourth out of 12 teams at a tournament at Arrowhead Pointe in Elbert County to open the season. Playing in a two-man scramble format, the Dragons finished with a team score of 225. The tandem of Blake Thompson and Micah Webb combined to shoot a 73, as did the duo of Jameson Wall and Tanner Bronnum.
Bryce James and Brian Habeck combined for a score of 79.
“The guys played really well,” coach Matt Sims said. “The format was good for them. They were forced to work together as a team and make decisions together, allowing them to work on the mental side of the game.”
Both the Jefferson boys’ and girls’ teams played two days earlier (Thursday, Feb. 27) against Commerce at Double Oaks Golf Club, but the teams used the match as a practice round as the squads could not complete nine holes.
The boys did not record individual scores. On the girls’ side, Shamiya Johnson shot a 43 on eight holes.
