PHOTOS: Jefferson swimmer Janie Davis signs with Florida Southern
Jefferson swimmer Janie Davis, who was a fourth-place finisher at state in the 100-yard butterfly, will swim collegiately at Florida Southern.

Standout Jefferson swimmer Janie Davis will compete collegiately at Florida Southern, having signed her letter of intent with the Division II school in Lakeland, Fla. Jefferson High School held a signing ceremony for Davis Wednesday (March 31) at The Arena. Davis was a four-time state qualifier as a high schooler and a top-10 finisher all four years. She finished a career-best fourth place at state in the 100-yard butterfly this past season. Davis also broke a meet record at the Northwest Georgia Championships. “Janie through the years has absolutely just dominated the pool,” said Jefferson swimming coach Tess Nunnally, who has coached Davis as far back as youth summer league. Nunnally noted that Davis accomplished most of her best times this year — whether in high school meets or other meets — in a swimming season effected by the COVID-19 pandemic. “That says a lot about you,” Nunnally told Davis. “That means that in life when you hit a hard place, you’re going to go through it and you’re going to succeed and just be great … I could not be more proud of you.”
